The moon's a harsh mistress
forgive her slow retreat
she lingered longer with her lovers
but her brother already paints the morn
his orange glow awakens me
and I catch her naked
dancing away just so I could see
or perhaps tonight she danced for you
my dream caught her kissing
one of my favorite stars
just long enough to stop my heart
and glorious is the day I wake
to find her dashing fast
to beat retreat before the dawn
that catches her anyway
